How to Grow Lotus From Tubers
Simple Steps for Successful & Healthy Growth
Step 1: Choose a Suitable Container
Use a wide container, tub, bucket, or pond with at least 12–18 inches depth. Ensure it can hold water without drainage holes.
Step 2: Prepare the Soil
Fill the container with 6–8 inches of heavy garden soil or clay-rich soil. Avoid using light potting mixes that float in water.
Step 3: Plant the Lotus Tuber
Place the tuber horizontally on the soil surface with the growing tip facing upward. Gently press it into the soil without damaging the growing end.
Step 4: Add Water Carefully
Slowly fill the container with 2–4 inches of water above the soil level. Increase the water depth gradually as leaves emerge.
Step 5: Provide Full Sunlight
Keep the container in a location receiving at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily for healthy growth and abundant flowering.
Step 6: Regular Care & Maintenance
Maintain clean water levels and remove any yellow or damaged leaves. Add aquatic plant fertilizer during the growing season for better blooms.
Step 7: Enjoy Beautiful Blooms
With proper care, floating leaves will appear first, followed by stunning lotus flowers that bloom throughout the warm season.
